The survivors of mankind begin to fight each other over the limited supply of uncontaminated food and water still left in the world.
The strong ones begin to band together in gangs and armies, fighting each other over territory, while oppressing the weak. A man named Raoh appears, seeking to establish order in the post-apocalyptic world through his mastery of the martial art of Hokuto Shinken.
With the help of his childhood friends Reina and Souga, Raoh takes on the mantle of the "King of Fist", as he gradually extends his reign, recruiting new allies in the process, while fighting against rival warlords who seek to challenge his authority.

This is later shown to be true, as he is slowly turning to salt, though he keeps it a secret from all. In addition to his supernatural abilities, the Black King has also shown himself to be a brilliant strategist, able to teach the non-humans of the fantasy world how to build their own culture, economy and military.
In fact, Minamoto no Yoshitsune has described him as a "multi-world expert". The Black King also knows the "Descent", an aerial support and maneuver of flying transports dropping soldiers into the battlefield.
Cell Multiplication: One of The Black Kings main abilities, it gives him the ability to duplicate any living cell whether it be plant or animal.
This has been seen used in several ways the first being the ability to heal any wound. Stark, however, emerges from the mock grave as a physical entity, complete with the personality traits that Thad exhibited while writing as Stark, such as drinking heavily and smoking Pall Mall cigarettes.
He then goes on a killing spree, gruesomely murdering everyone he perceives as responsible for his "death" — Thad's editor, agent, and the People interviewer, among others.
Thad, meanwhile, is plagued by surreal nightmares. Stark's murders are investigated by Alan Pangborn , the sheriff of the neighboring town of Castle Rock , who finds Thad's voice and fingerprints at the crime scenes.
This evidence, and Thad's unwillingness to answer his questions, causes Pangborn to believe that Thad — despite having alibis — is responsible for the murders.
Later, it's discovered that Stark has the same fingerprints as Thad, a clue to the twinship he and Thad share.
Thad eventually discovers that both he and Stark share a mental bond, and begins to find notes from Stark written in his own handwriting.
The notes tell Thad what activity Stark has been engaging in. Observing his son and daughter, Thad notes that twins share a unique bond.
I will admit, this book may have rated slightly higher if it hadnt come at the end of a long list of similar books with the EXACT same character traits.
Seriously, does every author nowadays truly believe that to have a strong female character she must be snarky and nasty?
I promise, women can be strong and still give a kind word now and then. They can even talk in paragraphs without being rude! So, heres the basic story.
They fight, hurt, fight each other and others and continue their nasty banter, BUT After which, they continue to hate and mistrust the other - fight more, then final conflict.
Ta DA! The end. The overall plot, world-building, creativity, action etc. Jul 22, Penny rated it really liked it. This book wasnt exactly what I was expecting in a good way.
The author mentioned this was more romance-oriented than her other books. I lean more to less romance, but since I like this authors writing, I went ahead and took a chance.
Yes, the book has more romance in it, but it does still have an interesting plot about Aenors past, Lyrs past, Lyrs half-brothers, etc. Drives me bonkers!
Anyway, this was a great series starter and I look forward to the next book to find out more information about the bearer of the fruit no spoilers!
I do recommend this book, and I was provided a complimentary copy. Jun 15, Amanda Deur rated it really liked it. Wow, this was a quick read.
I finished this in about three hours I think. It says something about how much I enjoyed this book. I picked it up and didn't put it down until I finished.
Plot: Once, I was a fae princess with sea-magic at my fingertips. Im a hunted supernatural in a squalid shop, stripped of my power.
After the brutal king throws me in prison, I Wow, this was a quick read. This story is quick paced, action packed and has bubbly yet intriguing characters and a budding romance.
There are little twists and turns along the way that keep the story interesting even though at times I felt as if there was too much happening in a short amount of time.
I love action packed books but there has to be a balance and there has to be room for the reader to catch up.
When too much happens at once, a reader can lose focus and get confused. I enjoyed seeing the relationship between Lyr and Aenor develop but it felt superficial at times.
It went from nothing to all way too quick. While the sexy scenes were just fine the actual relationship building could've been written better.
It lacked a little and felt rushed. All in all this was a fun and entertaining read, I really enjoyed the story and the MC's.
I was ready to order book 2 and 3 and then I read a spoiler and now I'm done with this series. Probably never going to buy book 2 or 3.

Crawford always tends to go back and forth with me. Some books are good, some are not my cup of tea. By no means was I enamored by this book but it has a lot of potential to be more exciting in book two.
Characters: Aenor: oooh what a name. Ten points for gryffindor for originality. She's a protective momma to underserved and abused women and can run in heels through knee deep water apparently, so if anyone needs to know who I'm voting for in the next So I was pleasantly surprised with this book.

Hello, hello , Lyr, I'm a huge fan of large bodies of water. Besides that we have two spoiled brothers who are hilarious and Gina, the human who is mooching off the sea gods to stay at the Savoy while Aenor goes to save the Which reminds me I went to a Savoy hotel in Ireland for a facial and the lady literally dropped the lamp on my face mid facial, I'm not making this shit up, but otherwise was a pleasant and overpriced experience.
TBH the plot is okay, and I wonder what'll happen in book two. Cause this didn't end in a cliffhanger way but just a weird pause much like the way Crawford chooses weird times to start a new chapter.
Feb 09, Lisa rated it really liked it. Ok, this was really good. The idea was different, at least for me, sea-Fae, kingdoms and mythology under water, demi-Fae, I found it fascinating.
I struggled a bit with the world, it's a mix of humans and others but I wish that part gave more info, maybe a map of the mixed world including underneath would have helped me see it in my mind, how the two mix or don't 4.
I struggled a bit with the world, it's a mix of humans and others but I wish that part gave more info, maybe a map of the mixed world including underneath would have helped me see it in my mind, how the two mix or don't mix.
I also wish it was longer, there were parts I wanted more delving into, but, it's the first book, so, maybe moving forward some of these things will get better explained.
The story moves fast, lots going on and I was enchanted. It played like a short movie in my head and when it's over, your like Mar 28, Shyla Colt rated it really liked it.
This story has it all. Humor, heat, lore, and adventure! I didn't realize the journey of sorrow, betrayal, and confusion when I first set out.
I liked Aenor. She was a relateable character in a lot ways, just trying to survive after a massive tragedy derailed life as she knew it.
Her wit, grit, and fallible nature sold a lot of what was happening. Once a powerful princess, she lost everything when her kingdom was destroyed, her powers were taken and she was thrust into the world unprepared.
Her story is one of survival, misinformation, and so much more. I loved the progression, the portal travel, and the different worlds and beings we encountered in this story!
I wasn't the biggest fan of why they thought Aenor was such a villain. I listened to this on audio, and the narrator is phenomenal. Also, Lyre May 22, Julia rated it liked it.
This was an okay, easy read, but Ive read so many better fae series and Im just not invested enough in these characters to read the rest of this one.
